Over the course of my 10+ years as a photojournalist and photo editor, I have come to believe that at the core of the best visual storytelling is teamwork —  strong research, effective communication, respect and humility, diverse commissioning, attention to detail, speed in news and discernment for sensitive situations.

Experience

2022-present, Freelance Photo Editor, The New York Times

I work with the fantastic team at NYT Opinion as well as breaking news, live coverage and digital home page.

2023-present, Freelance Photo Editor, Giant Artists

I develop and build artist portfolios, news posts and assist with print materials.

2019-2022, Instructor & Editor, Momenta Workshops

I've had the privilege of working with the Momenta team as instructor and editor teaching about the business of photography as well as providing editing sessions during the immersive nonprofit photography workshop. Below are some student’s work I helped edit.

2022, Portfolio Reviewer, Northern Short Course

Provided reviews on photo stories, bodies of work, website edits and pitching strategies to a variety of freelance photojournalists and recent journalism graduates at NPPA’s virtual photojournalism conference.

2011-2013, Photo Editor, The East Carolinian

Built the visual voice of the newspaper, lead a team of staff photographers and maintain the photo budget among other responsibilities for the bi-weekly newspaper, which had a circulation of 9,000 copies per issue in the Spring and Fall semesters.

2014-present, Design work

At my college newspaper I learned layout design and pursued this work for a semester to understand the full range of visual capacity with the stories we produced in the bi-weekly newspaper. This has led to ongoing projects such as my own marketing as well as website development and book design. See more here
